We had a quick 5 day trip with only one small mishap. I failed to get the door to the laundry closet closed tightly and on a bumpy road in northern Texas, the door flew open, the bleach flew out and landed all over the bathroom carpet. In the room sat the cloth bag holding my new quilt for Maria (I'll explain more later). The bleach soaked the carpet all the way through. Harold cut out the new colored soaked carpet and we disposed of it in the trash barrel provided by the camping facility, as the sun sat beautifully on that day. Our final day was short. We arrived at LABI with no problems but discovered that our refrigerator did not work. Although LABI provided a (college size) refrigerator for us, we had to throw out most of our food. Not to worry, the next week, we started eating in the cafeteria.

On our way traveling south we had the opportunity to enjoy many beautiful sunset and all the beautiful colors of fall leaves heading south. Each state was richer in colors until everything was green again. I'm so glad God decided to provide so many colors for us. He could have made everything black and white. Do we take the time to enjoy the color? Not always, but this time....yes!

On The Road Again

We are on the road again and have arrived at our first stop ...east Tennessee. I have a very loving mom who worked more than one job to support me. My grandparents helped raise me until the age of thirteen when mom married my step-father. My step dad changed things because we were able to live in a nice neighborhood, I went to a good school and life was good. I started getting good grades and was happy. My dad tried to correct me for my own good but I started to rebel. I was fifteen and had found the wrong kind of friends to hang around. My life began to spiral downward as more opportunities came up for me to get drugs. With my allowance I bought drugs right behind my parents back. They tried to straighten me out but I moved out and in with my grandparents. My life remained in rebellion doing my own thing. I couldn’t get money anymore so my new friends said they did prostitution to earn money. I decided I could do that to get my drug money so started my life as a prostitute. My drug habit became so severe that I couldn’t even get up to go outside and stand on the corner. I had lost my parents and I was losing my life. I started praying to God and asked Him to help me and He did. I had contacted something and at the doctors office I saw an article in a magazine about Teen Challenge but knew nothing about it. God was starting to work though. One night a cop asked me if I would like to get some help. I told him yes. That cop literally saved my life. I was taken here at Teen Challenge and within two weeks Jesus was my Savior.
My family and I are restored. Everyday I am drawn closer to Jesus, closer to the life I was meant to live. Its only been five months and I have a long way to go but He reveals something new to me daily. Lately I am convinced that He wants to use me in a street ministry to prostitutes.

Our Heros

This is Dan, Billy and Phil.

We had quite a scary accident happen in front of our establishment a few weeks ago. The day was extremely windy, as it often is here, and a large motorhome was headed north on the divided highway we sit on. A gust of wind caused the motorhome to suddenly leave its side of the highway, drive across the grassy median and into the path of a semi truck. There was a sudden explosion and these three, seeing it, ran as fast as they could to help. They pulling the elderly gentleman and his wife from the motorhome saving their life. The truck driver was killed.

The picture shows the fire extinguised but it not only burned up both vehicles completely but the road as well. Her life began a downway spiral that soon found her hooked on cocaine.

She knew life was not suppose to be like that and began trying different recovery centers. Finally thirteen months ago, God intervened and opened the doors at Teen Challenge Costal Bend. She is a very tall, beautiful energetic girl. Her name is Erica and after observing her and then getting to know her a little, I needed to tell her story that was published in the TC newsletter.
For most of my life I was not afraid of anything. I struggled with eating disorders and by the age of 14 I was using drugs and alcohol heavily. I always said I was not afraid of dying.
About a year ago I was hospitalized for a drug overdose and diagnosed with an enlarged liver and kidney malfunction. I had given up. I wasn’t afraid to die because I was dead inside already. I was crippled by a fear to live, a fear to face the reality around me. I had lost hope but my family had not given up on me and had faith in me and so did God.
In this short time I have been here at Teen Challenge, God has been working on me at a rapid rate. I have come to understand that God allowed me to fall so far just so he could rise me high. I can say I am still not afraid to die because God has given me the promise that when I leave this earth I have eternal life with Him.
I live with a new fear. It is not earthly but it’s the Lord. Proverbs 19:23 says “The fear of the Lord leads to life; Then one rests content, untouched by trouble.” Only now my fear doesn’t cripple me -- it drives me to do His will. I’m afraid of letting Him down and not fulfilling the purpose He has for me. Now God overwhelms me with joy and praise.
Teen Challenge has provided a place where I can come, sit, be still and hear His voice. Now I am living and not afraid of it. My purpose is to love God and serve Him for the rest of my life.

Now I am working for Jesus

This is one of the young men whose lives have been radically changed. David Hancock's Testimony
I was raised in a good Christian home and gave my heart to Jesus at a early age. My father was in the military which took him away a lot. When he got out he became a alcoholic and a workaholic, then the divorce came.
My sister and I both struggled and suffered from all the fighting and abuse. We were unable to fit in at school. I turned to .....drugs. They accepted me, just as I was. Drugs eased my pain.
Then I was in a car accident, hospitalized and put on medication for my back, morphine. I suffered from depression that turned to anxiety. The doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with me and gave me a second medication. For six years I was strung out so my mom kicked me out because she could not stand it anymore. I moved in with my dad and soon became suicidal ending up in a mental hospital. My dad soon kicked me out because of things I was doing and I became homeless in Dallas, Texas.
One night I cried out to God, cursing Him for what I had been through. He reached down His hand of grace and snatched me up. He showed me that I would die if I did not change. I called my grand-parents. They took me in and got me into a rehabilitation center which helped me get clean. I went back to church and rededicated my life but all too soon I gave up. I chose to go back to abuse again with drinking. I stole my sister's car and was arrested for DUI. When I was released I started back on drugs again and was so miserable and mad at myself. I didn't know how to help myself.
That was when someone told me about a program called Teen Challenge, which was 10 months ago and I have learned so much about Jesus. I have been redeemed, filled with his Holy Spirit, and set apart for His purpose. My mind is renewed by His Word. I now know that God choses to prosper me, he has a plan for me and I have a future and a hope in Him. He took all the bad and turned it around, renewed my health and set me free and put my feet upon the Rock. Glory, honor and Praise to God thru Jesus.

This past Tuesday evening at chapel, the whole Teen Challenge "Roasted the M.A.P.S.'ers" with an evening of fun, much laughter and great praise of the Lord.

We were lined up on chairs at the front, dressed in our red vests and having a great time in praise and worship,.. then......... What a different world that is. Unlike any thing we have ever seen before. There were people crowded on the sidewalks with their hands out actually shoving things into your face to buy.

Any body can can buy........anything....even your Rx. Evelyn knew what hers was and she bought it there. All you have to know is the name of the drug. You can get your hair cut & permed cheap. Your teeth cleaned for $20.00 In one block we must have passed 10 of each.

We walked and walked than had lunch at a fancy place (in that town) but not too good, in my opinion. Maybe I didn't know what to order??!?

We walked until we could walk no more but had a good time. Then drove to south Pedra Island (interesting place where many Americans spend the winter) and came home in the dark.

Graduates Nov 20th

The is the graduates: Jessica, Adult Teacher Brenda (fine name) Betty and Kat. Please pray for these women.

This is Kelli

This is Kelli, she is the 4th, almost 5th grader that I am going to be teaching. I don't really know the turn around time for broken ribs but I was really impressed with how quickly the Lord answers prayers.

Well.....we made it to Driscoll (outside of Corpus Kristi) in one piece with no flat tires. Praise the Lord. I will be taking some pictures so you can see the compound and the work that is being done. The guys started as soon as they pulled in. There are four M.A.P.S.s couples here presently with another expected Nov 15th and more coming in Jan 2008. a total of 7-8.

We are all getting accustomed to the heat and working.....of course. There is not much for the women to do here.....just fill in sometimes.

I am catching up on pictures...scrapbooking and sewing a quilt.....and always laundry....since the washer in the 5th wheel will only wash 2 t shirts and 1 pair of pants at one load......thus 2 loads is done daily.

The food in the cafeteria has been excellent.......both lunches and dinners....not what you would expect. We had shrimp in sauce over spaghetti last night that was delicious....salad w/ bread of course. These dishes are as good as a fine dining establishment.

Thats all for now. Did I wet your appetite?

Will get into the stories later.

Well, Harold and I have left Wills Point AG church. I wanted to tell you the end of the story. This is John and Ruby Moore, he is the electrician who was working at the church with Harold.

Harold and Albert have built the desk area (in the balcony) for the electricial "stuff" and John has put the electricial "stuff" in place.

If you remember I told you earlier that John got some bad news from the doctor (suspecting cancer) in John's lungs. We gather around him, annointed him with oil and prayed for him. A few days before we left, he saw the doctor and he reported that John had an infection in there and not cancer. Praise God! Now John can keep on working for God and M.A.P.S. building churches.

We left Saturday and arrived in Corpus Kristi Sunday afternoon. It was a very good trip with no flat tires. Harold is busy at work with four other M.A.P.S'ers remodeling gutted rooms and installing air here at the Teen Challenge.

The Jammers Auction

The "Jammers" had a "Spaghetti Dinner" and an auction. There were crafty things, home made pies, cakes, brownies and more, and tickets to various events and places.

They played for an hour (top picture), we had prayer (one of the best I have heard) and then we ate before the auction.

Here you see in the lower picture, the ladies getting the food ready. It was very good with many other tasty items beside the spaghetti, garlic bread and salad.
The auction began and it was so much fun. We saw a "Mississippi Mud" cake go for $35.00 and a "Apple Cake with Pecans" go for #30.00. A pie or bread brought in only $25.00 each.

It was a fun filled evening with very loving people who just wanted to help out a fellow musician with his medical bills. He had a heart attack and while at the hospital found out he has prostate cancer. They collected $650.00 for him. By the way he was there ......played his guitar & sang.

I wish they would start places like this one in every county in the U.S. It would sure combate depression in the elderly. They care for each other and they go to different churches.

We even had an apple pie given to us and the lady who had bought it herself had just celebrated her 55 wedding anniversity 3 weeks ago. She just simply said to us......"Welcome to Texas" She had come to our table last week and talked with us for a while and found out we were from Ohio. We will miss this place and these people.

New Drapes

We had worked last spring with another couple in Kerrville. They were staying at a local RV camp ground about 15 miles from Wills Point and happen to drive into town to get a few things and saw our truck at the church. They stopped by and decided to come here and help when they were finished camping with their grand children. Al and Harold work well together. It is so much fun to be able to once again renew friendships and get to know each other better.

Pat and I both scrapbook and we caught up on each others work. They spent the summer at Glacier National Park working for a AG camp ground and she got some beautiful pictures.

Among other things, we have had fun this week sewing drapes for their RV. The blinds are not darkening blinds and the Texas sun can be brutally hot at times. It has been in the mid 80's all week. Not my choice! Cakes for dessert. YUM!

We had good conversations and sharing of stories along with the food. This is a wonderful bunch of people and we will miss them when we move to the next place.

John, the man sitting across the table from Harold (in blue), has a health problem and has gone for testing. Harold and Al (center in white) are helping him get the booth (in balcony) completed for all the electricial work for the sanctuary at the church. He wants to have a good report so he can keep working on churches for the Lord for a few more years, he says. They simply call themselves "The Jammers".....and sure know how to have fun on what some people may call the slow day of the week....Monday. They meet in the Fire Station, bringing their instruments and enough food to feed a small army. Their voices may be a little rusty in some areas but their song are from their hearts and they sure can make music.

They have a break at half time, pray for each others needs, sing "Happy Birthday" and then have a meal together and enjoy each others company. They resume their music and songs for a little longer and then its over for another week.

You might ask why is this such a big deal......it goes on at other places. Well.......are the people who are doing this in....... "other places".......the age of these people, I think not. To say they are retired .....is to put it mildly....they have have been retired for many, many years.....YES, they are older...in some peoples eyes.....but not in their hearts. They may walk slower, sing softer, and not see as far as they used to but they are contributing in a way that should take place all over the world. Yes, this is a jewel in itself that I wish I could take with me when I have to leave this area and travel on.

Harold has been hard at work with two other M.A.P.S.'ers - John and Vestil building a sound booth platform wall in the balcony area, while I helped Chris one day, who is the refinisher of the pews, until he started doing more complicated stuff.

Yesterday another M.A.P.S. couple, Pat & Al Reynolds, came to help. And to answer your question......yes we are still having fun. God is so good to us in every way.

Yesterday I took on the job of making drapes for the Reynolds camper. The Texas sun can get very hot and heats up a camper quickly. Anyway we can be used to bless others....that is our motto. We miss you all. More later. The Lord told Harold to check the camper out before we left the rest area and we had a flat tire. He changed it and we took off. The next day we were just outside of McAllister, OK and heard a loud pop, pulling off the road and had ....yes!! you guessed it another flat tire. We were able to get that one and the flat from the previous day fixed at a Wal Mart garage. Thank you Lord......sorry it was Sunday. We spent the night and started on our final leg of the journey and would you believe.....we were only six miles from our destination when........yes!!!! again another flat tire. Harold was having a hard time getting this one off and I prayed for a nice, young man who would want to help him fix it to come and around the corner of the camped walked a nice, young man and he helped Harold get the old tire off and the new one on. We are now working on the new church at Wills Point, TX

Convention Time#1

So Many RV's !!! Shops are creative in their decor and diverse in choices......there is even a nice little coffee shop.

This town hosts the Assemblies Campground M.A.P.S. uses for their convention site each year.
